Enteral nutrition, or "tube feeding", is a safe method of supplying nutrition to those patients who are unable to adequately ingest food as a result of injury or illness.
Enteral feeding consists of providing the patient with a liquid food mixture containing proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals by means of tubes that are inserted into the stomach or small bowel. When a tube is placed through the nose and into the stomach or bowel, it is called nasogastric or nasoenteral feeding. When the tube is placed directly through the skin and into the stomach or bowel it is called gastronomy or jejunostomy.
In either instance of placement, the movement of the liquid nutrient is facilitated and regulated by special infusion pumps called enteral pumps.
ALCOR Scientific is a recognized leader in the development of enteral feeding systems. Our enteral feeding pumps and administration sets are safe, easy-to-use and cost effective.
